Adams Morgan Day 2006!

The 28th Annual Adams Morgan Day Festival takes place on Sunday, September 10, 2006 from noon to 7 pm. This Cultural Street Festival celebrates international cultures, creativity, music, food and dance.

The festival is hosted and organized by AdamsMorgan MainStreet Group, a partnership of residents, business owners and non-profits working to magnify, retain and promote Adams Morgan's unique and vibrant character.

FESTIVAL FEATURES

  • Two large Live Music stages will define the main entrances to the Festival area at Columbia Road and Florida Avenue:

    • The Florida Stage will see the 20th consecutive year with Washington Post's Jerry Phillips as its Master of Ceremonies and sponsor international music groups, including Latin, jazz, reggae and salsa. Show starts at 11:45 am.

    • The high-energy Columbia Stage showcases blues, uptempo jazz, R&B and Latin & American rock. Show starts at noon.

  • Dance Plaza Returns -- Coordinated by Cheryl Hardy, it features dance demonstrations and workshops that get everyone moving! Talented groups will perform West African dance, salsa/rueda, Afro-Cuban rumba and Mexican folk dances. Other groups include the youth step group nominated for the DC Dance Awards and a popular Bolivian dance troupe. The Dance Plaza is part of the family-oriented activities on the grounds of Marie Reed, including the Kid's Fair.

  • Cultural Stage on Euclid St. at Columbia Rd. This area will feature cultural and family entertainment, from belly dancing to performances by Sitar Center students. Show starts at 11:30 a.m. Coordinated by Celestino Zapata and sponsored by Bank of America.

  • Fabulous vendors will offer multicultural and hand-crafted specialty items, arts, crafts, ethnic imports, a variety of food and drink, and wares and wonders of many types...with an international flair! Enjoy strolling up and down 18th Street, which becomes pedestrian only. A single row of vendors stretches from Columbia Rd NW to Florida Ave. Festival Vendor 2006 App.
  • Arts on Belmont (between 18th St. and Columbia Rd.) Sponsored by Citibank, the beautiful tree-lined Belmont block is filled with original artisans in a wide variety of styles and mediums. Glassware, oils, watercolor, textiles, sculpture, and more. Arts on Belmont Vendor 2006 App.
  • A Kids' Fair with games and activities for youth and children. This year is the best yet, with a mini-stage featuring music, the Chinese Lion Dancers, a magic show, and martial arts demos. Kids will also love the "streetcorner juggling school," balloon artist and facepainters, moon bounce, and interactive science exhibits in English & Spanish. Held at Marie Reed school grounds (18th St NW at California). Coordinated by Samantha Cribari.
  • The Fun Run 2005 was sponsored by Safeway and the Washington City Paper

Enjoy the vibrant street scene from the sidewalk tables of your favorite restaurants. Pick up interesting finds at our various neighborhood stores or street-level vendors.
