Adams Morgan Main Street invites all to Rediscover the Southern End of Adams Morgan aka "SoMo".

As part of the Rediscover Adams Morgan theme,

Adams Morgan Main Street has organized activites for Saturday, Oct 6th

Adams Morgan Main Street invites all to Rediscover Adams Morgan, especially the Southern end. "SoMo" is 18th Street, U Street, Florida, California NW. Join Mayor Gray at 1:00pm at the corner of Florida and California Street near MINT and Pleasant Pops. "Visit diverse and unique indie businesses, old favorites and newer ventures, grouped in this compact area," says Lisa Duperier, President Adams Morgan Main Street.

Mayor Gray will be visiting the businesses and participating in highlighting the unique and interesting assortment of both day and evening venues in SoMo. The ribbon cutting is for the newest addition, Pleasant Pops. "This completes the transformation into a safe and lively area with both day and evening choices," said Duperier.

Learn about the interesting variety of businesses that showcase the diversity of Adams Morgan. There are unique restaurants, clothing, specialty shops, a health club & spa, pet stores, Belgian chocolate, and even an old style, real barbershop. Jack Rose is a destination for visitors from all over the nation and international visitors too. CM Jim Graham will focus on DDOT's improvement to the intersection of Florida/ U/ and 18th Street and the streetscape improvements, including the reopening of Champlain Street, which helped spark the renaissance.

From 10:30am – 3pm, Artists and Sitar students will be restoring and preserving the Historic callbox at the SW corner of Kalorama Rd and Ontario, NW. The Skater represents the National Arena (now Harris Teeter) and the local resident who won the 1954 championship.

The SoMo businesses are: DeVinos, Dahlak, El Tamarindo, Locolat, Morton Fine Art, Stussy, And Beige, Urban Escape, Kalorama Cleaners, Pleasant Pops, Eddie’s Hair Creations, FurGetMeNot, Planet Pet, Jack Rose, The Blaguard, Absolute Pizza, L’Enfant Café, Duplex Diner, Peking Garden, and Wise Owl Club.

Adams Morgan to Celebrate Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - "Rediscover Adams Morgan"

On Friday, July 27th, Adams Morgan will celebrate the completion of the 18th Street Streetscape project that remade the 18th Street NW commercial corridor between Columbia Road and Florida Avenue.

DC Mayor Vincent C. Gray along with Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham will join business owners and residents to commemorate the largest public investment ever made in Adams Morgan. This ambitious project is one of the most complex and all-inclusive streetscapes accomplished in a dense commercial area.

The visible improvements are wider aggregate sidewalks, safer crosswalks with bulb-outs, new granite curbs and trees, bike racks, and brighter streetlights. Less visible but important upgrades are all new electrical conduits, high pressure gas and water services, and storm sewers.

The end result is a commercial area integrated with the residential area that is safer and more pedestrian-friendly. Overall, Adams Morgan is now a better place to live, visit, eat, shop, play and do business.
